The Little Gallery on the Farm - Paintings
Neil
Jeffers is the resident artist at The Little Gallery on the Farm.
Neil explains what influences his paintings.
The inspiration for my work comes firstly from the constantly changing patterns of nature.
The other influences on my work are ancient history and civilisations in particular,
The Celts, Sumerians, Assyrian, Egyptian, Indian, African and the South and Central
American cultures Maya, Olmec and Tolmec. This in turn leads to the great religions,
Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish (Caballa), Hindu. My work is a combination of
all the above and a universal language of colour and symbol links them all.

Guest Artists
Roy North
The gallery is currently showing a selection of work by Ashwater based artist Roy North. Originally from West Yorkshire this well travelled artist has made this area his home for the past ten years. Taking his surroundings as inspiration he has created some quite intriguing landscape paintings. Do they bring the outside in or are they taking an interior outside? Its really up to the observer to decide how to interpret the stunning trompe l'oeil of these unusually shaped paintings. We also have on show some of his drawings from his travels in the Far East. Roy is a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and has exhibited widely during his career, most recently at Birdwood House in Totnes.

Ann Vallance
Liane Tancock
Liane is a young artist from Pyworthy (near Holsworthy). We presently have three of her oil paintings which reflect the many moods of the coast around Bude. Liane graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Fine Art and has since returned to her Devon roots.
Barbara Bird
I have always loved to draw and paint but was unable to fully promote my artwork until relatively recently. I am mainly self taught, but gained an A level in Fine Art as a mature student.
I work in most media, although I specialise in pastel. My subject matter is varied, ranging from landscape through flowers to wildlife. My greatest passion is for cats, from the much loved “moggie” to their magnificent wild cousins, the "big cats".
I exhibit my work annually in London at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery with the Society of Feline Artists, and locally with the Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society at the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford, at the Artists’ Garden Exhibition at Rosemoor, Torrington and with the Newton St. Cyres Art Group. ![]()
Duncan Hopkins
Since moving to North Devon in July 2007 I have been re-evaluating my techniques and subject matter. I am using abstract and representational visual languages to explore form and atmosphere, imagination and emotion. I produce one-off pieces or work in series.
The landscapes are an attempt to capture some drama, colour or play of light and shadow which moves me. Whilst exploring the appearance of a particular place, I am aware that the media (paint, etc.) has a significant role in the nature of an image.
My earlier work was motivated by the 'inner' landscape, myth, and surrealism. These elements often appear in the figurative work I produce, and are used as a way of communicating an energetic integration and stance with the world around. This is influenced by mind, emotion and an interest in shamanism, vision quest and spiritual meaning. ![]()

There are three new paintings in our Christmas Exhibition by Ann. The Salmon Leap, Lapwing and Fairy playing music to a sleeping pixie.
In Ann's own words, she describes her work.
Escape to Landscapes, 50% from nature 50% imagination. Joy and Peace-with birds, butterflies, lakes, waterfalls, rainbows, guiding star etc. sometimes with nature spirits, fairies. ![]()
